Past Events - 2008 - Education Week 2008

Education Week 2008 had two of our students demonstrating their Love of Learning and their ability to lead.

Chris and Robyn both showed tremendous leadership as they read their speeches to our Assembly. The text of their speeches are located at the bottom of this page. Please take the time to read what they had to say.

Our Choir with Ms Middleton sounded beautiful too.......

And there were the parents who came along to join in with our Peer Support Program.....

My name is Chris Bryce and I have been lucky enough to be chosen as the Student Principal for Education Week and I was very happy to be chosen.
I would like to thank all our special guests and parents for coming along today to help us celebrate Education Week.
Firstly, I believe being a Principal is about having the ability to lead and manage the school properly and help children learn through caring and understanding.
The teachers and the principal in the school all have to work in different ways with the responsibility to help kids enjoy learning through life.
The importance of learning through life is based on family, community, friends and of course teachers, who show us how to respect one another and  how to take responsibility as we learn in life.
To be a leader you must lead by example and you need to listen to everything. That helps us learn and not to worry about making mistakes…..because they help us to learn too!
We have been learning since the time we were born right up to this minute….and we have learnt from many experiences and many people…..like our parents teaching us to walk and talk or ride a bike… in my short years here, I have already learnt so much…..so just think about how much we will learn through the rest of our lives!
It is here at school we learn the “TOOLS” of learning….Maths, English. Science and so on…these help us to understand, work out problems, communicate and most importantly get on with each other………..SCHOOL PREPARES US FOR OUR FUTURE.

Robyn Arthur - Student Principal for Education Week 2008 said.......

My name is Robyn Arthur and I am one of your Student Principals for this week.
The idea of Student Principal is to give selected students extra responsibility and for them to set a good example to the the rest of the school. I would like to say that I am very happy to be Student Principal. It is a privilege and I am very proud my teachers have confidence in me and believe I deserve this honour.
I was surprised when Mr Petersen told me that I had been selected to represent the school this week. I don’t think that I am the best student in my year. Many of my classmates could be here in front of you because of their good work and good attitude. I was told that I was chosen because I have shown a love of learning. It is a love of learning that I hope to encourage in you all this week.
Yes, I do love to learn. Often I learn through my mistakes but that is OK as long as I do learn and don’t repeat the same mistakes.
Our teachers at Austinmer Public want us to feel proud of our work. To put in a good effort and to take responsibility for what we do.
As students we all need to prepare ourselves for the day at school. To try our best, to listen and to concentrate. We can leave the chatting and playing till recess.
By learning we will get more out of life. We will have more choices. Jobs we enjoy and good friends.
Yes, learning is fun. Come to school looking forward to finding out something new. The key is listening and thinking about what you hear.
