Dragon Boating 2007
Saturday 3rd March saw a dedicated crew of parents and friends representing Austinmer at the Shellharbour City Festival of Sport, Dragon Boat Challenge.Sixteen crews lined up to meet the challenge and whilst this was a first time event for Austinmer, it certainly won't be the last! Our paddlers for the day were: John, Brad, Leanne, Peter, Fran, Tracy, Elizabeth, Steve, Diane, Paul, Nadine, Yvonne, Melissa, Simon, Natasha and David. And what a magnificent crew they made for our inagrual entry to the challenge. Next year think about joining us. Safety talks were our first priority .......... And on dry land we looked pretty sharp!
Time to put our practice to the test and down to the water....
And into the boats. Notice that our students came along to add their support ..... and ballast!
At last we are ready to go.
And now the racing begins.
Finished ...... after 250 metres of fun with a forth placing in our first race with a time of 1.08.55
Then came our second race and this time against Mr Petersen's old school ..... Jamberoo Public School.
Jamberoo beat us .... this time ..... but we were very happy with our third place and a time of 1.08.35. As a team we were very consistent, and hope that next year we can get a few more wonderful parents and friends on board to help us.
It really was a magic day and thank you to all of the students, parents and partners who turned up to cheer and support us. Look out in 2008 for a bigger, stronger, hungrier team and keep your eyes on the Newsletter to find out how you can join us in early March for the next Shellharbour City Festival of Sport Dragon Boat Challenge.
Now look ... we really did work hard .............
And we are very proud of our efforts and our school.
Congratulations to the 2007 Austinmer Public School Dragon Boat Crew
