Information - Parent Participation

5.1 Can I be an active participant in my child’s education?

We encourage you to take a strong interest in your child’s school life. You are invited to become a member of the school’s P & C Association and join with us in the many and varied activities in the school. Some of our teachers may invite you to become a classroom helper for a variety of different activities from listening to children read to attending excursions. However, classroom involvement is clearly at the discretion of the child’s teacher. A sign-on book is locate dat the front office and in the corridor outside the library. All volunteers are asked to complete a ‘Working With Children’ form which is filed at the school. These are available with the sign-on book.

5.2 Do we have a Presentation Day?

At the end of the year we hold a Presentation Day which is designed to celebrate the life of the school in the previous twelve months. All classes attend and parents are encouraged to come along as well. It has been customary to award Certificates of Merit for a range of academic successes along with those who have been successful in sporting and cultural activities in the school. Each Kindergarten child receives a book to encourage him/her into reading.

5.3 Curriculum Focus Days

In the past few years these days have become a highlight of the school year. We use them to help parents understand the school curriculum and its activities. The children work in small groups and we invite community members to come along and share their hobbies and interests as appropriate.

In Term Four the school conducts a Public Speaking Competition for all students from Kindergarten to Year Six. It is mostly conducted in class by the class teacher, but the final day is held at a local venue and we invite a guest to make comments on the finalists.

5.4 Canteen

The canteen at this school is dependent on parent volunteers. If there are enough people to support a daily roster the canteen operates daily from 9.30am to 2.00pm. However, from time to time parents are unavailable for certain days and the canteen has to be closed. We are pleased to invite mothers, fathers, grandparents and caregivers to support us by fulfilling this role.
The Canteen sells a variety of snacks at Morning Tea time and lunch time. Those children who order their lunches each day place their lunch-bag and money in a box in the classroom at the beginning of the day. These are delivered to the canteen where the lunches are prepared ready for lunchtime. A class monitor picks up the lunches just before lunchtime and delivers them to the classroom.

5.5 What food can my child bring to school?

Children are encouraged to bring healthy food to school. Lollies and chewing gum are not permitted at the school and neither are canned or bottled soft drinks.
